Master of Science in Digital Communication Media and Interaction Environments

 

The Postgraduate Program Digital Communication Media and Interaction Environments is offered by the Department of Communication & Media Studies, NKUA, has been approved by the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs and started in the academic year 2018-2019.

Teaching staff comprises faculty members, post-doctoral and doctoral researchers of the Laboratory of New Technologies in Communication, Education and Media, as well as collaborating faculty members and post-doctoral researchers of the Department of Communication and Media Studies, NKUA. 

The aim of the MSc Digital Communication Media and Interaction Environments is to provide high-level postgraduate expertise in the scientific fields of design, development and evaluation of contemporary and innovative frameworks for information management, communication and interaction involving digital media. Emphasis is given to the following thematic areas 

✓ data science in journalism and communication

✓ design of virtual environments experience

✓ participatory governance and digital social and humanitarian innovation

3 study strands are overall offered within the MSc, containing sets of specialized courses with the aim to provide its graduates interdisciplinary training, in-depth specialization and professional empowerment.

Accepted graduate degrees for applying to the MSc Digital Media of Communication and Interaction Environments include those provided by Schools or Departments of Informatics and Telecommunications, Computer Science, Digital Technology, Design and Applied Arts, Architecture, Graphic Arts, Digital Creation and Fine Arts, Communication, Culture, Journalism and Media, Philosophical, Social, Legal, Political, Economic, Educational and Health Sciences and Humanities, from home universities, or  similar institutions from abroad, recognized by DOATAP, as well as graduate degrees of other relevant University Departments or Schools of Higher Education (home or similar, recognized abroad).

The candidates’ graduate degree (or certificate) grade must be at least 6 (six) (with the necessary equivalence certificates from DOATAP, in the case of a degree from a foreign University). The Department Assembly may, with a special decision providing sufficient reasons, accept applications from candidates who have not received a grade of 6 (six) in their degree, as long as they (a) hold a second degree or postgraduate degree or (b) have a considerable written, research project or significant professional experience in fields related to those of the MSc, or (c) possess a combination of as more as possible of the aforementioned additional qualifications. Additional requirements must be met at the time of submission of the candidate's application. An application may be submitted by students who hold, instead of a degree, a certificate from the Secretariat of their University Department, proving they have completed their studies. Their full registration is possible with the timely submission of the respective degree in due time.

The duration of the MSc Digital Media of Communication and Interaction Environments study leading to the receipt of a Postgraduate Diploma (MSc) is 3 (three) academic semesters, including the time of writing a diploma thesis. The Program starts in the winter semester of each academic year and is full-time. The courses are organized in semesters and take place on a weekly basis (afternoon meetings), with a total workload of 30 ECTS per semester. The languages of the course are Greek and/or English. 

It is required that the postgraduate students of the MSc Digital Media of Communication and Interaction Environments pay tuition fees. Since the winter semester of the academic year 2022-2023, the tuition fees amount to 650 euros per semester for each student, with the provision for exemption of tuition fees for EU citizen students with low income, according to the Gov.Law 4485/2017.

The Postgraduate Program accepts twenty (20) postgraduate students per year in accordance with the approved Rules of Procedure of the Program.

The call for applications for the academic year 2022-2023 for admission/study in the MSc Digital Media of Communication and Interaction Environments has been published. The deadline for applications submission is Monday, September 5, 2022 at 2:00 p.m., according to the documents and details mentioned in the corresponding announcement.
